Welcome to First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). We have been a faith community in Carbondale since 1862. The life and teachings of Jesus guide us, his death reminds us that our faith demands lots from us, and his resurrection shows us that the oppressive powers of this world cannot stop him. We listen for the Holy Spirit's leading for being Jesus' followers in today's world. God’s law and the courage of the Hebrew prophets are a vital part of our foundation, too.
We celebrate the diversity of God’s creation and Jesus' radical inclusion of all, by welcoming rich and poor and in between, ethnicities, gender identities, religious backgrounds, and physical abilities. We hope you will add the richness of how God created YOU to our church family. Together we can learn, worship, care, and change the world for Jesus! We are an "Open and Affirming" congregation, "affirming the full inclusion of LGBTQ+ persons in the church's life and ministry."
