The Children & Youth Ministry of FCC Carbondale hears God’s call to encourage and teach inclusivity and love for all children and youth of our community in order for them to become followers of Jesus, through his transforming power, in friendship, service, engagement and love.

FCC Summer Events 2026
Worship:
All are welcome during worship! Worship begins at 10:30 on Sundays and typically lasts an hour, though we do sometimes go until 11:45. There are fidgets and coloring materials located at the back of the church that people of all ages are welcome to use. There is also nursery care available for children 5 years of age and younger. Our nursery is staffed by one background checked adult and one responsible teen worker. Towards the beginning of worship there is a children's moment. Children are invited to the front of the church or may listen from their seats. During this time, children participate in a short lesson that relates to the scripture and sermon. Some younger children choose to stay in the sanctuary until children's moment and then go to the nursery after. Children and youth also can also help lead worship by reading the scripture, helping with technology and streaming, acolyte, greeting, and in other ways.
During worship, children of all ages are also invited to the Prayground! A pray-ground is a designated place in the front of the sanctuary where young children can experience worship through age-appropriate worship materials, tools, and toys, that will help keep them engaged in what is happening- materials such as children's bibles and books, coloring/drawing materials, soft toys, pipe cleaners, and other manipulative items related to the scripture theme. The prayground is open after children's moment and closes during communion.

3. Hands to self
There is an adult moderator who sits near the prayground and helps children follow these expectations during worship. If a child is making it difficult for others to worship and can't be helped by the moderator, their grown ups should step in.
