Because there’s so much to learn and explore about God, Jesus, the church, the Bible, and the world, at FCC we believe that learning is a vital part of our faith life and being followers of Jesus. If you’d like more information about any of these groups, contact Pastor Karen at [email protected] or 618 457 6817.
Bible Study Most Sundays at FCC you’ll hear scriptures from the Revised Common Lectionary. It's a three year rotation of Hebrew Bible, Psalm, gospel, and epistle readings that is followed by many Protestant and Catholic Churches, in an effort to provide a broad selection of the Bible. On Wednesdays at noon (currently via Zoom) our weekly Bible study looks at the texts for the next Sabbath. This helps prepare members and the pastor for reflection on the readings. The readings and written and video commentaries are provided.
Sacred Conversations on Racial Injustice After the killing of George Floyd, we began this group because we knew we couldn’t be followers of Jesus in this time and place, and as a predominantly white congregation, without learning about and examining our own involvement in racism. Not that that hasn’t been true for a longgggg time. Through videos, conversations with guests, books, and articles we’ve learned history that hadn’t been part of our education, heard perspectives we hadn’t otherwise been exposed to, asked uncomfortable questions of ourselves and one another, and continue to explore how we can be anti-racist in Carbondale. We meet first and third Fridays at 11, currently via Zoom.
Seekers There is so much good stuff — books, videos, articles — that helps us deepen our commitment to follow Jesus. This group reads, watches and discusses a wide variety of material. We meet second and fourth Thursdays (currently via Zoom) at 7 pm.
